Teaching Video

In this video, I teach students the different parts of a sentence.  The required parts of a sentence are a Subject and Predicate. Optional parts of a sentence include Object, Complement, Modifier, and Adverbial.  Activating prior knowledge on types of sentences (Simple, Compound, Complex, Compound- Complex Sentences, Declarative, Imperative, Interrogative, and Exclamatory) students unscramble sentences on Turtle Diary.  With this game it enhances learning and brings a dry topic back to life and make it ever so relevant in today’s society.  Preparing students for the role of being an active listener, the author, the editor, the writer, and researcher. The essential question in this exercise is: What can a sentence do for us? Guided and independent practice is when I invite students to trust their unique authorial voices by questioning the parts of a sentence.
